Angry NEW California SMOG LAW ALERT!

California State Senator Dean Florez has sponsered SB 708, if passed into law it will remove the current smog exemption for 73 and earlier cars and require cars from 1958 on to pass smog tests and cause those who have modified emissions equiped cars to be charged with a crime.

If we contact our State Senators and Assembly people and encourge every one we know to also raise H_ll with their representitives about this proposed law change then we can beat this thing back. Please join with those of us who are banding together to fight this stupid proposal.

I support on trying to get this damned SB708 from not Passing.. This seems like what the Federal Government has been trying to pass called Operation Crush, stating that all cars that are smog exempt now, will have to be crushed and not driven... Damn how the hell would my 68 C10 ever pass smog since I have an engine that would never pass smog because of the high compression, big valves, no Smog pump, no egr... FReAKING Government pisses me off at times...

Cool

Isn't a shame when our political leaders have nothing ,and I mean nothing better to do(Our state is is fine shape, and all the roads are in great shape, and California has plenty of money, and our welfare system hasn't totally stressed the state, and our health care is second to none, and gas prices are at rock bottom prices, and people aren't loosing thier jobs, and nobody is worried about anything)than to try to keep thier piece of crap job in government and screw all of us.(Vented).My02

In case anyone wants it here is Dean's email address.

dflorez@omnisky.net

Go ahead and tell him what we think of his bill but lets do it in a polite and adult manner. Not that I really think that would be a problem on these boards but you never know.

Maybe this is better here is a page with all of his contact info.

that is completly rediculos do you realise how many people out there would loose so much money from older cars. i hope it doesnt work i know a few people with some older 67-69 camaros that are awesome cars and it would be a shame if they had to get rid of them.

Well in all actuality, this law will probably not pass since there are too many people that owns and loves classic cars and trucks.. What would happen if this law does pass, everyone who owns classic cars will be screwed as well as the aftermarket companies as well... I guess if the law did pass which I doubt it will, I guess I would have to cut up the old 68 C10 project and get a 1955 - 57 Car or pick up and use my engine and tranny in that... I am not too worried, just last year the Federal Government was trying to push Crush, which coincidently did not pass because there are still a lot of classic car and truck owners that fought that law as well.. Just my opinion though...

I really feel sorry for you guys in Cali. What are the smog ***** thinking now.To try to get older cars that were never equipped with smog equipment to pass emissions is just ludicris. That is BS and to then find out the main pusher of the bill drives a Denali.I call B.S. on that one What sucks is this crap starts in Cali and other states see that and then they go out and do the same thing. This kind of crap needs to be stopped. Would this clown even take an e mail from me into consideration seeing that I am not even in your state?? Probably not but I will still send him one.I support this bill not passing as much as the rest of you. That is one good thing about living in Michigan. As of now we have no emission controls. All of my emissions equipment was junked on both my cars long ago (other than the EGR valve) so if they implement emissions I am screwed. Lets get this bill knocked out.

Signed
A concerned Michigan Resident (Temporarily living in AZ)
