Counting down the days!!!

Hey guys,
I am counting down the days till my departure. I will be leaving Michigan one week from today. I have a few questions for you all. #1 I have a 95 S-Blazer 4x4 with 228,000 miles on it by the time I get there. It is paid off and I was contemplating taking the full coverage off it because I don't think I would get much if it were totalled. My sister lives in Mesa and she has been hit a few times in 2 years of living there. Do people drive like sh@t out there or were these just freak occurences??
#2 How are the window tint laws out there?? They are pretty tough in MI. My sister said she thinks it's legal. Any help would be appreciated. #3 I dont know if I'm bringing the car or not. What is the neighbor hood like around UTI as I will be getting an apartment close to the campus.Any help in these matters are greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance..

People drive like sh!t everywhere in Phoenix. It's cause everyone is from somewhere else. Combine that with all the illegals with no license or insurance in 30 year old, not-too-roadworthy cars, and it gets very interesting sometimes. Plan on your insurance doubling at least.

Window tint laws are relatively lenient. 35% on the front side windows, dark as you want on the back. However, I know a shop that will tint as dark as you want on the front sides for cash. I've never been pulled over yet (knock wood) for mine and I have 15% on the sides and 5% on the back.

Don't know about UTI...where exactly is it? There's bad neighborhoods everywhere around Phoenix. Good rule of thumb is...if there's lots of signs in Spanish, don't walk around there after dark.

UTI is at like Grand and 45th ave,i believe...but dude, a word of advice...if you havent signed any papers yet...get DETAILED course information.. my bro-in-law is going there and says he is not learning much useful...he says that most of the stuff they teach starts out with "you wont see this because it is obsolete, but this is how you do it"...lol...i thought it was funny that they were teaching him how to set points!

anyways...take a day and drive around Chicago and all the cabbies..then you will be ready for Phx traffic.

as far as neighborhood, you might just go a little farther northwest and put up with a 15-20 minute drive to school...alot better neighborhoods.

good luck!
welcome to hell on earth!

If you're going to school at 45th Ave and Grand, check out my old apt complex at 59th Ave and Greenway (about 5 miles north and 2 miles west of the school). The apartments there are pretty nice and affordable. One bedrooms start around $500 a month I think. They're called Greentree Apartments and they're just west of 59th Ave on the south side of Greenway Rd. They have 6, 9 and 12 month leases. There's a lot of other apartments in that area too since there's a grad school nearby. Pretty nice, safe area too.

Thanks for the replies guys. When you say that you know of a place that will tint for cash do you know what they would charge roughly for the front 2 sides?? As for insurance I talked to my agent today. I am not going to change my address. That way I can keep my MI plates on the truck and also keep my full coverage reasonably low. He told me to register a vehicle out there is alot more money than in MI I renewed my plates today cuz my B-Day is tomorrow (Hooray 25 years young) It cost me $76 for one year. I could'nt register either the car or the truck out there in AZ as both vehicles mysteriously have lost there cats.Whoopsie!!! Oh well thanks to all for the insight guys.

Well...it cost me $150 for all three windows (15% on the front sides and 5% on the back) so I'd assume you'd pay around $100 for the front sides? You won't get a receipt since they're technically breaking the law by tinting your windows that dark, but you'll get a business card with the details on it so they'll still honor the tint warranty.

Shoot me an e-mail when you get in town and I'll give you the name and number of the place.

Keep the full coverage. Lets just say my mom got in 2 accidents in the first 2 weeks of getting here. I myself have totalled 1 camaro. Seeing multiple accidents every day is common. Its a whole knew world here as far as traffic and the way people drive.

2 accidents in 2 months. Great you guys are getting me worried. All I need is one good one.I think even a small one would total out the truck with that many miles on it. Probably 230,000 by the time I get there.Full coverage will stay on. I have wanted a new car for awhile. The insurance money would be a good down payment on a LS-1 car HE!HE!HE!
