Post working on 94z

hey, i need to replace my clutch soon, i plan on going over the motor while i'm at it.

i want to install a cold air intake, possibly cam, port/polish heads and intake, install msd kit, and new plugs wires, and a good set of headers to match my catback.
then i have to go over my T56 and replace worn parts, and reshim rearend.

so what i need to know, is...........how the hell do you pull out that motor/trans, trans is a no brainer i guess but geez, i thought the 350 in the s10 was tight!!

i'm sure many of you have this down to a science, could you give me the easiest steps, to get that thing out, i have worked on the camaro yet, only older cars, cutlass monte carlo's, you know, back when there was room in there!!lol

time is never on my side any tips and tricks would be a big help. i have enough work to do without discovering on my own what everyone else already knew!

I havent done it yet either. But I do know your gonna have to pull most of the stuff off the front, as well as the AC system. The AC I hear is just to make it easier, not sure it is a necessaity. I have heard of guys pulling it with the intake, but I hear it is REAL tight. best answer I can give ya. Good luck, we can swap stories thru the winter

I am no help here. I am taking it that we are dealing with a LT1. All the ones we did we had a hoist and dropped the cradle with engine and trans together. Sorry.

come on guys, i know there are those of you that pull it apart on friday and drive it on sunday, lol.

i was wondering about doing the whole cradle... yes, LT1 and 6 speed.

all i have is jack stands and a cherry picker, but my friend managed to pull the cradle in his fiero in the garage but that's much less weight.

also, any other mods i should consider since i have it out? i want to get a good game plan here.

hey, thanks for the reply, i know there's tons of people who know this stuff well.

shoot me an email sometime with you name and phone number, but mainly i wanted the easiest route.

right now i'm guessing something like this.

pull tranny and bellhousing, drop car
pull radiator and asessories
pull fuel lines and plug
start pulling harness
hookup to cherry picker and disconnect starter
precede to pull.

are there any surprises,
how do you deal with the air cond stuff?
what about smog stuff? should i ditch this all and pull the cat?

and like i stated, is there any other work with the motor i should consider while it's out? i was wondering about replacing pistons with forged ceramic coated for possible future nitrous applications.. i was wondering if venom makes a kit for our cars. they have computerized systems that adjust the flow of nitrous according to throttle angle, kinda works like a turbo or supercharger powerwise, not a sudden jolt on your drivetrain. plus you can easily change spray time and so on.

do i need to upgrade rods/or the upper valve train?

i'm shooting for a solid 450hp when done, and not by adding 125 of nitrous, mostly i want it to be around 400 without spray. maybe none at all depending on what i have to do to get it there.

oh and about the stuff you have, i'm broke at the moment but i'm selling a car to take care of some of my bills, i'm hoping by dec i'll be in good shape money wise to accomplish this project. trans and clutch can't wait for next year, they need done this winter.

so if you hang onto the stuff there's a very good chance i would buy it off you later, since you live in the area and i don't mind used stuff here and there.
