So...Who has a line on rebuilding 700r4's?
My sister will be in need of a car come the end of July, and my dad has located a 91 s-10 4.3l 4x4 with 105k miles, "rough trans". My dad called on it and the guy described the trans as having blown up the reverse gear. Apparently reverse is a no deal, and forward gears only go up to 35 mph.
I can pull the trans with the help of my buddy who works at buff whelan chevy for nothing. I just need someone to rebuild it. It sounds like it may need a few hard parts, but my dad's company stamps the reverse hub for the current 4l60e, my company makes the 3-4 clutch pack reaction plates, etc.
If not, it may become a good learning experience haha.
Thanks guys (and gals),
-Josh

It is really not to hard to rebuild. I have the video i could copy for you for the price of a tape or so. The parts are not real expensive either. I have 2 places i could send you for parts. Or i do know a guy that can do it if you dont want to tackle the job. Steven

Thanks for the offer.
My same friend who works at the stealer has the video, and even the repair manual. He seems to think we could handle the job, but I really don't want to drop it again if we miss something. The transfer case makes the job a real pain.
Do you know approximately how much it would run to have the guy you know rebuild it, either with his choice of parts or I could supply them?
Thanks

They are reletively simple to rbuild, but i have heard around 700+ for Joels on joy to do them, depending on stock or performance rebuild, or it yourself, and go to Gordon Automotive in pontiac for the parts, they are pretty cheap, and are real helpful.

It sounds like a second gear shell bit the dust, pretty common problem. It takes out reverse and 2nd but should go faster than 35 because 3rd and OD still work, you just need to go fast enough that 3rd kicks in.
If you get around the Grand Rapids area I know someone who does a great job for around $650. He's honest, puts good parts in them, and knows what he's doing. He builds a lot of race trans for guys at the track. He built my 4L60E for my wagon (4250# running mid 13's) and it's holding up great.
If you want his number email me at familytruckster94@yahoo.com
