Lightbulb results from milan

Well, I definately wasn't gonna set any new personal bests with those track conditions. All in all it was fun. My best for the day resulted in a 13.6 @ 105 with massive tire spin from the Firestones. I guess that would explain the 2.3 60' and 8.9 1/8 mile times. Unfortunately, it seemed like they only preped the first 20 feet of the track. So right when my torque was really kickin' in on the launch, the track got grainy and I'd brake loose. I did have two .55X lights among my runs, so that was pretty cool. Then of course there was the .495 red light that just pissed me off. I definately had a blast. 13's are still fast and you gotta love it when it's ok to do 100+ and not have to worry bout getting a ticket. Thanks for all the effort that went into organizing the event!!! It was awesome!!!

Glad you had fun, my car was dissapointing, I think it needs some tuning/timing/rocker adjustments. My stock restrictive exhaust, stock air filter and such only got my 85 vette down the track at a best of 14.2 @97 mph. atleast it was always consistent from 14.2 to 14.4 (except when I missed 2nd gear). Oh well, maybe if I win the lotto I can modify it.

my day sucked massive rectal chamber.

couldnt hook, kept short shifting the 1-2 shift, shifted slow on the others when I didnt short shift them, ABS light came on, so I decided to pack it in, realized that I had left my wheel lock key on the lock when I went to tech, so I had to search for that, found it (thank god) in the staging lanes, and in the process of switching tires I found out that a pop I had heard a few days ago was the sway bar end link removing itself from my vehicle.

On a good note however, the new center section is quiet, even on the highway, and I think the 4.30s are gonna be great on a good hooking track.

Hope you weren't referring to my car ROBVAS, the only people who drove my vette was myself and IROCSS85 and the times were pretty consistent.

Well I'm sure all of your cars have much more in them. Milan is notorious for slip'n'slide, I mean that place hasn't hooked for years. They don't know what VHT is and they only appeal to the slick tired cars. Milan is noting more than a place to open your car up and see how fast it goes. You'll never set any fast ET's there with street tires.

Yep, it seems they only prep it on Sunday for the points guys. If you go on a Sunday you WILL hook...at least on the 3-4 runs you get in.

Arrow I agree!!

Sunday IS the best and only day to race Milan. That is whY I avoid all street tire races there. It just isn't gonna happen!

Street tires litterley peel rubber, traction compound and spray
right off of the track. THAT is the little ***** you see all around the starting area.

Slick tires on the other hand tend not to peel back everything on the line due to their lack of a tearing surface, which is tread.
Think of your tires as a sheraded knife and slicks as a butter knife.

A wise racer will look for the GROVE. Sometimes after an hour of street tired cars. it is worn away, but you may get a few passes in on it before it is torn away.

Basically... I look for the darkest part of the launch pad. This is rubber and compunds that have not yet been peeled away.
Remember... you can stage anywhere in the lane. I've been anywhere from 2' from the center section to 3' from the outside.

After your burnout, You try to look ahead for a spot to place your car in the beams, as mentioned above.
Remember... rubber on rubber is what you seek, not rubber on bald spot!

GOOD LUCK!

I was the first one to race last night (#0) and for the first 3 runs traction was excellent. I was hitting 2.0x 60' foot times on the stock tires. Much better than the 2.2x i am used to. I also got my best run so far which was 13.12@108.71. I did manage to trap 109 once but by then i was hitting my usual 2.2x 60' times and managed only a 13.4 with that run. I think its time for some drag radials =)

I had my bone stock 94 z28, i just bought a week ago out there! With a 6 speed and 17 inch almost bald tires spinning 2.448 60`, all i could get is 14.33 at 100! then i put my e.t streets on and bogged the first run, and blew the clutch the next! Had to tow it home!

And on top of that was told no Bikes and two bikes were there, that was bullsh*t! i wanted to see what my bike could do!

Sorry about your car problems, and with the bike situation I couldn't give you the go-ahead on that without consulting with the main guy running the rental (I couldn't contact him).

Last year he didn't allow bikes.

well all in all I had an ok night. I did beat my best time last year, but not by much. I ran a 12.69 @111mph w/a .501 reaction time and only 1.95 sixty foot. w/some traction and my 3500 stall back in, it should run 12.4s Im guessing, maybe better.
I let my buddy drive my Iroc a couple times. that was pretty cool. he's never raced before and only drove my car once. so really he didnt do too bad.

Chris That's awesome on the new best. Still using Nitto Drags or Et Streets now? Best 60 I got a few weeks ago at Milan was a 2.05 and that was spraying out of the hole, spinning to redline immidiaely and shortshifting second LCA brackets are going on soon and a cutout. Maybe a good tq arm and proper Nitto pressure should hopefully get me back to the 1.8X range. The torque spike is crazy whe I hit the switch...haha and the car is such a dog on motor that the best 60 I can get is in the 2.15 range..terrible

Debating whether or not to spend engine funds on "bulletproof" trans and nstall my 4200 Vig. converter Hehe then maybe I can keep up with you! See ya

still got the nittos. Im prolly goin to sell them cause I really want ET streets. that stall sounds fun, but I dont think your current eng. can rev high enough to take advantage of it. youd have a power band of like 1000 rpm you can put in a 6 sp. auto like the rally racers have. thatd be fun. I say leave your trans in and build a 350. but what are you plannin on doin when I fin. installing my N20 denny?

Milan was great, I beat my personal best which was a 13.47 with a 13.41, by just changing my lid and adding SFCs. However by 7 o'clock the track was getting to slippery. Had one of the best times there and it sure beats the public test and tune days. ( I"m getting real sick of saying ya i ran a 13.4 "AT MILAN" ) I say a field trip is in order to Statin Mich.

Arrow 40377726 or dumb ***s who drag race on street tire nite.

Denny... You'll need a MINIMUM of 2000/2200 RPM between stall and shift point. This is the recomendation of T/C makers!

Chris... Your MPH is indicitive of some low 12 second time slips.
