Local Detroit area speed shop to do head porting?????

A good friend of mine is looking to have a set of LT4 heads ported and polished. He's talked to APE, ARE, and Mach Performance. Does anyone know some other places to get heads ported no install nec. Just looking to get some quotes and some ideas about what the best to do with the stock LT4 heads.
I've heard about Modern Cylinder Head in Clinton Twp. but never seen or heard if they do SB Chevy stuff, anyone know??

hey there... where about in macomb TWP are you located ?

if you go to hall road and groesbeck... michigan industrial drive

there are many lil car shops including body shops, performance shops, drivetrain, dyno facility and a specialty head porting place... you should go and check it out....

you take hall road east towards groesbeck/north ave and turn down michigan industrial drive and it is one of the last buildings before the turn on the left...

i hear they do good work... they did my friends cavalier and he said it got him about 30 horse on a stock head

Thanks guys so far we've gathered these shops;

Detroit Speed Works... $2400 for machining, 3 angle valve job. Price
does not include valve train assembly.

Agostino Racing.... $3000.

Modern Cylinder head.... ~$1900 CNC port/ polish, new valves (your
choice in size) 5-angle, bronze lifter guides, valve train assembled and
ready to bolt on.

Mach Performance... ~$1900 new valves, 5 angle valve job

So I think we'll try Katech, next. I have this posted on MotownMuscle.com so we'll see what they say.

Dave I read your story on the other thread, sucks man! I'd be ticked too...
ARE being the price they are I doubt my friend will go for them but this is what I wanted to hear, good or bad stories about any of these places.
-Thats what the net is for right!

Just because someone pissed in your cheerios dosent mean they dont produce a good head. I have the stage ones and I love them. They flowed great, and gave me what I was looking for. Just my .02 from the other side of the fence.

I will go out on a limb and say that I believe mine to be castings from before there were some changes over there. That might contribute to my happiness and your displeasure.

For head work i reccomend Livernios rick there is 1 of the best around.
Also check out wayne @ Headwinds. Both guys do graet work. In fact wayne's son works @ livernois. Steven

Have you check the prices from Thompson Automotive in Redford? I dont have the number off hand, but hes on Telegraph road and does AWESOME work. His cars have been in several car magazines, Super Chevy and Hot Rod to be exact. Have personal experience with that shop, and hes a super guy to deal with.

Birdie2000, No quotes from APE. Kirk never got beck with my firend after 2 calls. I guess he's too busy so not a big deal. I've heard they get head work from MACH Performance of which they quoted my friend $1695.

Dale Royster, I've heard of that place but thought they specialized in race motors. I'll pass this onto my friend and let him try to contact the shop.

triumph, Congrats to your dad Katech is very nice and they do sweet work. A little pricy and I'm not sure about their LT1 expertise but for LS1's they are tops!
