Do you know someone who works for 5th 3rd Bank??

I went in yesterday (2/3) and paid off my boat loan with a Certified Check from a Federal Credit Union.

I took the title with me and asked to have the lien signed off. The teller refused saying it "wouldn't show as paid off" on their system until tomorrow (2/4). She told me to come back today and she would sign off.

Went in today, that teller was not there and the branch manager refused to sign off, saying I had to wait 10 days since the payment could be stopped. I insisted, she refused. I asked for my money back, she said she couldn't do that, either.

So, they have my money and my property (since a vehicle is worthless without a title).

2 calls to their Customer Service (hah!) line, resulted in further refusals and estimated of 2-3 weeks for "processing."

WTF????

Anyone work for these bastiges and have a phone number or email I could use to reach a real person with real authority to make my appeal?

I used to work at a few different credit unions... they are just covering their asses in case you stop payment or the check is no good for some reason. Its common practice to hold the release of lein unless you pay in cash or have the money in your account to cover it.;

Good luck... maybe you can find someone to pull some strings for ya.

I have 5/3 as well. They **** me off more often than not.

I have had deposits get held up in their clearing process and meanwhile another check comes in and bounces. They charge the most exhorbitant rate for a bounced check than any place I have ever seen. $56!!! for ONE bounced check! And all because their network is so screwed up it takes forever for things to clear.

Amen to that. I bank with ECCU and National City and have no problems with either.

I am a member at a credit union too, but it's a small town credit union. The only reason I use 5/3 is because the job I used to have had the checks drawn from there and if I deposited them there I knew instantly if the pay check would be covered or bounce before I even walked away from the counter plus they have the credit/debit card and my credit union is still without...
