detroit guys inside please!
I'm getting ready next weekend to drive up and go to the auto show and was wondering if you guys could give me some tips. I've never been there and have been told not to stay downtown. I was thinking about staying at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and was wondering how it is down there.
Is the show worth 7 hrs. of driving....I love cars but was wondering if it's more hoop than hollar.

All I know is that it is very very very crowded at that show every year. Every year it gets worst and worst. I live maybee 30-40 minutes away and I wont even go with all the crowd. I mean its nice seeing all the new/concept cars that are be displayed but IMO I can wait to see them on the road or the television

It's not bad! But it depends on what you are looking for! It's a lot of new tech and new cars! Not so much hot rods though! But yeah, weekdays are better! Weekends will kick your butt unless you really like being butts to nuts with strangers for hours on end!

Re: detroit guys inside please!
1 it depends on what ur driving. i wotn take my truck or my bird downtown. if driving a beater up here then yeah its safe, if not then dont stay downt here. stay somewhere surounding, cobos area is kinda empty, as in vacant buildings.
Re: detroit guys inside please!
I go to school downtown and i feel it is safe. Life most big towns there are crappy areas of Detroit too. But i have heard the marriott downtown is pretty nice. I wouldnt be too worried about staying in detroit, but livonia is definately the better of the two cities. We got quite a few good hotels and plenty of restaurants. Either or you will be fine, and i think you should definately check out the auto show in detroit at least once. I go every year and its cool to go check stuff out for a couple hours. anyways good luck, have a safe drive.

how long you gonna stay for? do your self a favor........stay at the marriot. park your car for the whole weekend. they will valet it for you somewhere safe. there are a few bars downtown and enough places too eat too. we also have some decent casinos. you can take the people mover (above ground rail train) or catch a cab to anywhere you would need to go. Detroit dosent have a great downtown like most big cities but its better then having to stay 30 miles away and dealing with our lousy expressways.
the NAIAS in Detroit is supposed to be one of the best in the world. it is VERY CROWDED though. i dont go unless i can go early on a weekday morning. weekends are INSANE there.

A cavalier shouldn't get stuck in any snow under 7-8 inches. I speak from experience. You'll be fine!
It's a worthwhile trip if you find fun things to do.The Auto Show should be fine if you get there before there nice and early.
Sweet Georgia Brown is nice for dinner and is around there and it looks like Seldom Blues located in the Ren. Cen has tables avaliable also if you don't want to go "out".

I work all over Detroit, northside, southside, eastside, and westside. Downtown is probably the safest area you can be in when you're in Detroit. The only thing you will really have to deal with is the panhandlers. Don't wander out from downtown into the neighborhoods though.
