I have went through 2 batteries and have only had the car for a year I got the new one last fall and before I put it in storage for the winter I un-hooked it When I hooked it back up it fired up and I drove it home. Well its been a week since its been started and all I got were clicks. . . . .

Any suggestions? It has to be something that is just stays running when the cars off.. I think the wiring is shot

 

Use a voltage meter hooked up to the battery and watch the voltage as you pull out one fuse at a time. When the voltage goes up you've found the circuit thats drawing voltage. Make sure and remove your dome light bulbs or hold the doorswitch in so you don't get any draw from that circuit.

If that doesn't help you consider the fuel pump relay or the sound system, or possibly the security system if it has one.

 

Heres my opinion. Don't buy an Optima battery. I have had one for not even a year now and it is junk. It did'nt matter if it was hooked up while the car was in storage or disconnected.It would'nt start the car or even run the door chime for that matter when it was hooked up.Red roc wrench has the same Optima and his has given him the same crap.Nothing but problems for both of us.I will be going back to a regular AC Delco with my next purchase.Just my .02

Yeah I don't know what's up with those Optima batteries but both of them in the barn were dead. Two other Camaros with cheapo batteries fired right up! Tried to bring them back to life with trickle charge and they only last a week, if that.

Did you let them freeze? Any lead/acid battery that loses its charge is more likely to freeze the water in it and that'll kill a battery quick. My batteries come out and sit in the basement and I've never had one die like that. Just my .02

 

the drycell batteries will not last long if they aren't used at least every few days in the winter months. especially if it's really cold out.

i have no problems with mine, however i keep it room temperature like their directions say when i'm not driving the car alot. i run one in my winter car as well and have no problems at all........unless it's 32 or less out and i don't drive for a few days.

 

Oh-OH! I'm gonna be ticked if I have to buy a new dry-cell battery for Redbird this spring. I left it in the car! Unplugged and fully charged of course. I'll put the charger on it a for a few days and see how it acts!

i take it that it wouldn't be under warranty any more? i left mine in my car all winter long last year.....fortunately it was still under warranty as it wouldn't hold a charge. just took it up to murrays and they gave me a nice shiny new one.

 

Maybe I gotz lucky... when I reconnected the battery post, the alarm went off and she is taking a slow, two amp charge right now!! Good Ol' Oddessy!!! (maybe)

First fire-up off the year coming this afternoon, after I leave the magnets on the oil filter for awhile.
