Re: 355 kit HELP

well, not sure what you already have in there, but if its all stock, you at least want

1) timing chain (or true roller timing chain)
2)pistons (depends on what compr. and if your gonna use nitrous/supercharger ever)
3)new valve train (bigger cam, valve springs, hardened pushrods, roller rockers, pushrod guide plates, rocker studs, valve seals,)
4)head work (at the least, Id suggest getting a valve job and get the heads cleaned. but nows a great opportunity to have them ported )
5)ARP main studs (also head studs if you have the money)
6)if your not using nitrous or supercharger, then have the stock crank polished/sized.
7) good piston rings
8)balance the rotating assembly

what are your plans for the engine? what is your power goal? how much cash do you have to spend? I paid $550 to have my block cleaned, bored/honed, decked, cam bearings installed, freese plugs installed. you'll spend another ~$75 to have the crank redone. youd be hard pressed to beat the price of the mail order short blocks. at least shop around on the internet and compare price with the local shops.

good luck though.

Valid point by the Chris man. If you're not looking to use a lot of "power adder", there are a lot of unbeatable deals out there as far as short blocks go. GM's new ZZ383(cubic inc-425hp), the old ZZ4, ZZ385(HP), Track Pro, Speed-o-motive, Golen's Engines, etc,etc... Goodluck!

Local shops can definately handle a project like you want also and it can be a better experience if you're looking to interact with the build-up.
