Well, as usual I got nearly the "top of the line" stuff. Rossler's basic tranny is $1295, and is pretty damn stout. I went for the next step up, which is $2595 and includes billet input and output shifts and a high strength aluminum drum, etc. Outfitted with a transbrake, steel insert in the drum (for street longevity), valve body setup to allow engine braking in 2nd gear, a pan, etc. got me to bit over $3,000 . But it really should be bullet proof for my application. Of course, I ended up with an extravagant converter, a Coan 10" steel stator job for a "cool" $1,070!!! Then there's a shifter and a cooler, maybe another $400. Total cost is therefore in the range of $4,500 So, you can see why for this year I am gonna try it without the Gear Vendors OD, which would be another $2,500. The $1,295 tranny with a $500 converter may have done the job. But I have learned to avoid halfway measures. I know people who are on their fourth or fifth transmission rebuild. This sounds like no fun to me. It's expensive and leads to downtime. When the car is down, the cost/fun ratio is very unfavorable.

The only thing I am leery about wrt to the tranny is the convertor stall. It should stall at 3,200-3,600. I'm hoping that's a good compromise between the track and the street. It's just another of those compromises as I try, for some quixotic reason, to build the fastest "true street" car I can. There's somethin about a car you can drive around town in comfort and run like a bat out of hell at the track that I find immensely appealing.

Anyway, once it's sorted out you guys can come for ride . I will even be willing to swap with Jason, as long as he keeps his hands off the nitrous switches!

Well, as long as you put it that way, maybe we'll both leave the joy juice on?!
