John... I am totaly in agreement with him. If you ever saw how we "break in" new or freshly rebuilt engines at work you will understand.

As you know I work on big bore diesel gen sets... but the theory is the same. After is rebuilt.... first thing that we do is hook up a load bank and run that sucker at 100% rated load for 4 hrs. Yeah, I have personally loaded an engine to 3600HP and left it there, and only 1 hour of test run time since the rebuild.

Never had a problem with seating rings using this method.

In fact Caterpillar wont even gaurantee the emissions of a unit unless it has at least 80% load...

IMO, fire it up and beat the snot out of it.....

That is so what I plan on doing. Driving it like I stole it. I know ton of guy with race cars that when they get the motor rebuild they take it to the track and run it. And that is so what I plan on doing. Just thought that was a pretty cool write up about that.
