cleveland ohio smog exemption
looking for some info. i just sold my pig of a house in CA and moved back to ohio. i have some $$ to finally do up the LT1. what i really want to do is get it smog exempted so i can go all out with the heads and cam and still drive it back and forth to the track. can anyone tell me if this is possible?? i have heard some talk about being in a club can get you the exemption but that sounds too easy to me. i only drive it about 1000 miles a year. its really just a toy. thanks in advance.

with a good tune, you can probably pass echeck anyways. i passed with my car, built 355, no smog equipment at all, hollow cat converter. the only real way to be exempt, is to get collector plates. which you have to deal with the dmv to get, they let some people get them and others they don't. there has to be a certain amount of cars built that year, or you have to show 5k in receipts for parts and work that you've done to the car.

You might want to look into collector plates. There are a couple ways to qualify for collector plates: car is in the nada guide to collectible cars, or you can document $XXX in modifications (my cousin went this route with his supercharged Mustang). And you need another car titled in your name as "proof" that your collector car isnt your primary vehicle.
Collector plates are only issued through the BMV in Columbus, so you'd have to work through them....

ive had my car registered at a girl from works house who lives in ashtabula county for the last 5 years and ive had no problems with cops. i went and got a collector plate application from the dmv last month. im going to fill it out and turn it in and see what happens, its about time i become legal! my buddy used to have a 88 mustang gt that he was able to get collector plates for so i don't see why i won't be able to.

I called Columbus BMV a few months ago. The 96 Z28s are already eligible for collector plates. I have to send them pictures and receipts of $5000 to get them for my 95.

And no email, no fax, just snail mail....took over a month to get everything sorted out, but no e-check, which is good since I just went LT, !AIR, !EGR, !CAT.
Good luck
