Could you clarify exactly what happens when "it stalls slightly to put second gear ". Do you mean it seems to hang up before it will shift into 2nd; it goes into neutral before it shifts into 2nd, etc?

It it stalls at 11 mph
stays reving for about 1 second then jumps into second gear

Re: z28 transmission

Fluid level is correct, and fluid does not look/smell burned?

There are codes for the 4L60E trans. They don't turn on the SES light. So you have to scan for them. This is a problem with a 95, because it has a 16-pin OBD-2 style ALDL connector, but an OBD-1 PCM. Here's free software download. You just need a cable.

Re: z28 transmission

I'd get the trans fluid changed by a shop that can flush the torque converter. Filter change also.

What fluid would be best?

Re: z28 transmission

Exactly what the Owner's Manual tells you to use. That would be a Dexron-3 compatible fluid. The current Dexron-6 is backwards compatible.
