Your opinions on ceramic brakes pad material

I'm partial to the ceramic material as I've heard there would be less brake dusting. Longevity is also improved. Seems to be the material of choose for police cruisers and cabs.

However, I do have two concerns. How is cold breaking with ceramic? Will I expect longer stops in the mornings? How long does it take to come to temperature?

And two, does ceramic pads have the ability to hold heat rather than bleed it off? I would be concerned about warping the rotors if the pads hold high temperatures.

Any personal experiances out there?

Michael

Anybody with opinions on ceramic brake pads (DuraStop, Performance Friction, NAPA Ceramix)? Thanks.

I have heard good talk about the ceramics. Maybe someone will chime in with some specifics.

they are definitely cool and better for performance but cost is the main hindering factor for ceramics, as far as price wise i think you can buy like 10 good sets of pads for the price of one set of ceramics so is it really worth it in non race applications.... im always up for new technology though!!

Ceramics are awesome. Pretty expensive, but almost NO brake dust, which is a good enough reason alone. Plus they last alot longer. No difference in braking feel, fade, or ability good or bad. I just love how the rims are never black. I think i paid $80 for a front set, which of course are lifetime warranty anyway.

I put the NAPAs on and I am happy with them. I don't autox or anything like that so I can't tell you how they act under that kind of stress but for street they are nice. They are expensive but the dust is low and braking is good. Plus, they are quiet as can be. I can't remeber the exact cost but front and rear were $160+/-. I also can't tell you how long they last compared to regular pads. When I needed pads this last time I almost bought the Hawk pads but I heard some bad things about dusting and noise among a few other things. There are alot of people here that have Hawks but I heard it first hand from several trusted people so I just went with the NAPA Ceramix.
Hope that helps.
As far as I understand from the NAPA guys the NAPA brand Ceramix don't have a warranty.

I've got the Napa Ceramix pads front and rear and am very pleased. MUCH lest dusting and no noticeable difference in stopping power so to speak. I have Baer brakes on the front too and the stopping is still ten times better than my 94Z with stock brakes.

Like has been mentioned though... they are expensive

You may want to clarify with him whether he was talking about the pads or the rock in the end of his pipe.
They work just fine cold.
