would love to get rid of t56 for auto

My T56 has 110,000 hard road/drag miles on it, guess you could say it is prolly ready to go. I drive the car everyday and was thinking of changing it out for an auto. What are the changes I need to make besides the obvious(torque conv, center console, shifter and so on). Will it run right with my tune, or will the computer go nutz. And what about the elec. conn, will they work also.

I'm not sure about electrical connections, but you are either going to have to get a PCM out of an auto or have your current PCM re-tuned.

I can help with some of your questions tomorrow when I am more wide awake, but in the meantime just to let you know that I am looking for a rebuildable T56 core.

Just look up t56/manual swap in the drivetrain section. You'll just be going backwards, covering holes instead of cutting them open, etc. The only major issue may be the wiring. I would assume the harness for the manual cars is different. On auto cars there is one big connector that attaches to the transmission. Also you'll need an aftermarket fluid cooler to run the lines from the tranny to, unless the manual cars came with the same radiator but just didn't make use of the bottom section. You'll need the other pedal setup as well, unless you just want to get rid of the clutch pedal and keep the smaller brake pedal. Retuning of your computer will be neccessary, so it will shift the tranny when it's supposed to.

You'll have to swap for an AT (auto trans) radiator. I work for a major OEM radiator supplier and we have seperate models for AT & MT cars. Too expensive to put in a trans cooler if not needed.

On the other hand, the stock radiator trans cooler really isn't up to the cooling if you run a converter and/or shift kit so you could just run your MT radiator and aftermarket trans cooler (your gonna need an aftermarket cooler if tranny is modded anyway).

Hmm, I've been thinking of an auto to T56 swap . . .

Any modified automatic car that is raced or driven hard needs a trans cooler IMO. Cheap insurance.

In that paragraph I was speaking about OEM radiator manufacturers. MT model radiators get a different P-tank that has no oil cooler in it. It is cheaper for the MANUFACTURER to do it this way. In the 2nd para I believe I mentioned modded ATs needed additional aftermarket cooling

Hey, thanks for all the help. And if this does'nt work out for the auto, I will be looking for a rebuildable core myself. Sucks having a fast everyday day driver, cause when things break it is not fun being seen in the neighbors PINTO!!

I'd love to switch my auto for a t56

Trans cooler is a good idea, even if you don't do anything else to the trans (stall, shift kit, or anything else) it's a good idea to put one on just to keep the trans healthy.
