worked on pulling motor today...

i pulled the radiator, alt, intake and valve covers today.what a pain1 i cant wait to get rid of all that underhood clutter, like the air pump, traction device and abs.
last season i had a engine problem.i couldnt figure out what the noise was but i could tell it wasnt good.today after i took the intake off i noticed a piece of the piston ring just sitting in the lifter valley! i cant wait to get her out and see the carnage!!the rod must have broken and piston fell down into the spinning crank, or there might be a huge chunk of the piston burned away from my 100 dry shot, high timing and lack of race gas.the funny thing is, it still runs pretty good with a slight knock that comes and goes.

If you think its a pain pulling the motor out, wait till you start putting it back in! With a buddies help, and a car lift, it took us about 7 hours to pull the motor out of my Z28 from the time the car drove in on its own power, and the time it was pushed out looking like this. It takes MUCH more time (at least for me) putting it all back together properly.

if it is possible for you to do you should def take it out the bottom, if not good luck

i used to pull them in my driveway out the top. remove the intake and put the picker deep in the valley. remove the front acc. remove the balancer,wp,dist. tilt the engine back as you go up. you do not have to remove the hood. loosen the top bolts and prop it up.
i prefer the top without a lift. i think it is safer. my opinion
