wierd problem!

Well i finally fixed me cooling problem. had a air pocket in the engine.

Well fixed that and it ran good for about 2 weeks, until last night it over heated again and some coolant came out of the overflow tank. Well let it cool off with my manual fan switch. Started car, overheated again so turned it back off. Did this about 2 more times and then it finally cooled off and i started it and it stayed cool. Enough for me to get home, well it never overheated on the way home. Well today i went to the store and it over heated again...and this time it was showing weird signs. When i would brake the temp gauge would fall about 10-15* and then rise back up when i go. and the needle was above 220*

Now you think an air pocket got back into my system or what? i mean 2 weeks of driving and not 1 problem till last night. Btw the waterpump and 160* stat are brand new!

any ideas people?

Im going to check out the coolant level tom, since its raining here.

Re: wierd problem!

well, if you keep getting air in your system,

first, any leaks?
second, rad cap ok?
third, if the other 2 are ok, sounds like head gasket time

Re: wierd problem!

Get a new cap with the correct pressure. From dead cold, fill up the rad and the overflow. Start it up and watch for flow to start with the cap off. If the level goes down when flow starts, fill it up till it won't take anymore. Cap if off and shut it down till next morning. Check both radiator and overflow level and top off if needed. Cap it and drive it.

If it happens again, it's time for pressure testing the radiator and possibly a leak down test at the cylinders.

Re: wierd problem!

well also the radiator is new too along with my engine..

355 forged..

Just filled up my waterpump and i heard the blute, blute, blute the air made thruogh the coolant when feeling it up. Too about half of a coolant jug

So did that and filled up the rest of the radiator and never got above 190* at WOT also...

So yea i think i fixed that problem!

Re: wierd problem!

Pressure testing the radiator will find leaks through out the system. Sometimes at the head gaskets or intake gaskets. If that doesn't show anything, then it's time to do a leak down test.

But that's after you do as I suggested.
