And, $270 - sorry, $280 isn't that bad for what the opti does...now, GM price...that's FRIGGIN ridiculous!!!

The "non-vented" cost more because they're older and thus becoming in shorter supply. This is how the OEM parts world works... the more "rare" (i.e. fewer in stock) a part becomes, the higher the price....
For instance, look up the price for body panels for a 1993 GMC Typhoon
.... prepare to bend over... no lube. I'd be willing to bet some of those parts are completely out of stock, i.e no longer available.
Most of the parts are built DURING the model year runs, so the last time a non-vented opti was produced was in calender year 1994..... they try to estimate future parts demand, and make enough to sell for the forseeable future. If the parts begin to run out sooner than expected, prices go up even faster.
I'm fairly sure this is the process.....

I paid 220 for mine off a friend, grand new a.c delco. They are reliable though I guess, my stock lasted 10 years. Was still working when the coolant killed it. I mean, look at complete Gen I set ups in Jegs. They can get expensive to.
According to G.M. High Performance mag.Dated March issue 03,the internet price for a 94 is$231.00.from www.gmpartsdirect.com-------------Might check em out.My02
