Why Doesn't My Keyless Remote Work??
Whenever it gets hot or humid it seems that my keyless remote doesn't work. It's really getting to be a pain in the a--. I'll be sitting there for like 20 seconds trying to get the thing to work and eventually I have to use the key. Sometimes it will turn on the interior lights but not unlock the doors. And most of the time when it does turn on the lights before the lock when the lock does work it will unlock both doors instead of just the driver's door. I know it's not the batteries because I just replaced them. Anyone else have this problem or know what it could be??

Mine acts funny sometimes, too. Aggravating as heck. I keep the buttons cleaned and good batteries in it. I wish I had an answer.

Does any one know where the receiver is located (if there is one)? My guess is that it needs to be cleaned off.

On 94-95 models it is here. After looking at schematics, I would imagine the problem is in the receiver, itself.

Try opening up the remote and cleaning the contacters on the button and on the board with some rubbing alcohol. I did that with mine and it works like a charm now..

Originally posted by chasmanz28 whats the part number on that receiver, im sure the 96 year would be the same, maybe ill try changing that to see what happens GM PART # 10273333 and is ~$95 wholesale . I did not think it was that high. I just got through playing with mine. I was able to make some improvement in the operational range and consistency of operation by tapping a wire onto the anntena that is inside the receiver. I just looped a coil of stranded wire up behind the glovebox and secured it. While I was testing, it was really acting up. If I got just a couple feet from the car it would not work most of the time (before adding the wire to the antenna). It seems to be better, now. I will have to see how it goes during daily life. |
Here is how I "cure" my xmitter. Some of you have probably read this before. Clean the board and rubbery contacts as usual. Then put small pieces of metallic tape on the rubbery contacts, not the board. This usually works for 4 to 6 months before having to do it again.

ya I've got the same problem, only now after cleaning and new batteries they still don't work, I have to stand right next to the car, and it still works only 10% of the time. For a while it worked ok, but its to frustrating to keep dealing with it. I like them because its convenient and safer then standing in the dark waiting for some thug to come up and rob you. My dads Riviera same year as mine 95 worked great, I could stand in the house at 30 feet away and the thing would pop open the doors. His is a different transmitter, not sure if our Fbody ones are junk or work with the sameparts. I'm ready to get an alarm with remotes which will rid the problem.
