Why do my rockers keep needing adjustment

I've had to adjust my rockers 4 times now. Everytime I hit around 5000rpm they start clicking and I have to re-tighten them. The're 1.6 NSA pro-magnums, any ideas? How much torque are you supposed to put on the lock nuts?

NSA = Non Self Aligning

Non Self Aligning rockers need to be reajusted from time to time, not sure about torque specs though, if they are not tightened to spec that is prolly why they keep chattering (clicking) when you get up in the RPM band, sorry I can't be of more help...

Are you sure about that, or are you thinking of the difference between a hydraulic roller lifter and a solid roller. I've not heard of NSA rockers having to have the lash reset more often than SA rockers.

Dumb question, but you did install guide plates. RIGHT... NSA rocker have to have them.

How did you adjust the valves? You don't torque the adjusting nuts. I've got valve covers with the tops cut out. This is what I do.

1 Loosen the center lock screw
2 back off the adjusting nut a few turns until it starts clatering
3 slowly tighten it down until the noise stops
4 tighten 1/2 to 1/2 turn more
5 tighten the center jam nut

Just another thought, do you have stock springs and cam? If so your springs may be binding due to light valve float. The stock springs are absolutely at their limits with 1.6 rockers.

When I asked about torquing the nut I meant the center lock nut, not the one that gets adjusted. And the springs were sold to me as part of a package from combination motorsports, so i'm sure everything is supposed to work fine. And yes, I did use the guideplates. This is just confusing me.

Tighten the center lock nut until it clicks.
