Who's put 315/35/ZR17's on a 17x9.5 wheel???

Hey guys, I just bought a set of chrome ZR1 17"x9.5" wheels to use as my "Summer" wheels. I've also got a pair of Nitto 315/35/ZR17 Drag Radials mounted on sliver painted 17x11 wheels for the dragstrip, and I really like the way that "fat rubber" looks on the back of my car. So.... I'm thinking of buying a pair of Pirelli P7000 Supersport 315/35/ZR17 tires and mounting them on my new 17x9.5 ZR1's rears for the street. I know the "footprint" (and traction), won't be optimal since the 315's are designed for a 11" wide wheel but, has anyone else mounted 315's on a 9.5 inch wide wheel before and run them on the rears??? Are there any other problems associated with running 315's on 9.5 wide rear wheels????

TIA for all replys

I did this last summer for the hell of it since I had some 315 Hoosiers to try it with. They won't fit on the front, but they do in the rear. Drag Racing would probably be OK, but for road racing there is alot of sidewall flex and the tire rubs the lower control arm pretty hard in some turns and also rubs the inner fedwell since the offset is 56MM. With a 50MM 17X11, there is not big problem at all. IF you're drag racing I'd say give it a try.

i have them on 9.5s but my rear wheels are 38mm offsets so they don't rub at all. he's right though you can feel sidewall flex.

Dont know if many of you realize, but a wider tire wont give you anything over a slightly skinnier tire for traction concerning street tires. A higher aspect ratio (middle #) is whats going to give you traction (taller sidewall). I like the fat tire look as well. Sounds like a good idea for a street tire for just regular driving although it will look a big "bulged" out around the rim.

Left side.... 315/35-17 BFG DR on a 17x11 rim
Right side... 275/40-17 GS-C on a 17x9.5 rim:

Tire comparo....

Now think what the 315 tire is going to look like crammed on a 9.5" rim.......

If you are going to mod your car, do it RIGHT.

Thanks to all who replied Injuneer thanks also for the GREAT comparison photo, but what you are illustrating is precisely what I'm trying to achieve From your comparison photo's perspective, the 315 tire on the 9.5" wide rim should look pretty much like it does on an 11" wide rim, right? I know the sidewall will look "bluged in" where it contacts the rim in a face view of the wheel, but from the centerline of the thread view, (i.e. from the back of the car), all you're going to see is that "fat rubber" look I'm going for Keep in mind that this setup will only be used for street driving, I've got my Nitto 315 drag radials mounted on 11" wide rims for the track.

This is a great board, thanks to all who shared their comments
