What's up with all the smoke?
 

Is this something that is (hopefully) going to go away? Maybe I need to do some hard pulls with it. I would have to check what kind of rings I used, pretty sure they were plasma moly though.

It's embarassing to say "check out how it sounds!" when all you can see is smoke. :lol:

It's important to use substantial accel and decel loading to seat the rings. I hope with all the trouble you have had that it is not too late to do so.

I hope so too. Everything I've read about 'proper break in' (with a roller cam of course) was to just run it, and run it hard. Let the pressure build and hold those rings out into the cross-hatch and let them seat. When it was first running a few years ago and we took it out, we made maybe 2 hard runs with it and called it a night; next day was when all the problems started.

I'm sure it's had a decent amount of 'idle' and 'troubleshooting' time since then.

Sounds like I need to find somewhere I can run it hard and expand those rings out. Only place I can think of is the track. :( At least until I get tags. ;)

I don't see that it has to be at the track. Surely you can find some room somewhere. You just need to be able to keep the revs up (but it does not have to be constantly) and make sure you do acceleration and deceleration (engine braking) loading. Extended idling is the worst thing you can do with a new engine.

I went driving around a little bit trying to find a secluded non-residential or industrial area. Found something that should might work I hope. This area is so built up and populated.

I hope that takes care of it.

Spent so much time trying to fix it, I haven't had the chance to really work it in.

It could be intake gaskets not sealing up also. On the brighter side of things it sounds really good. :)

Well, we (he, my guy who finally got the car fixed for me) had quite a time trying to get the intake to seal up properly. I hope it's just not broken in properly, and there is still time to break it in. On the other hand, I would rather deal with the intake than the rings.

In an ideal world, I would just like to have it work. :mad:

Yeah I know how you feel its taken me 2 years to get mine running right. What was the problem with getting the intake to fit?

The intake was leaking externally, to atmosphere. From what I was told by the guy fixing it, it wasn't entirely milled correctly or something, and the gasket wasn't compressing. I believe he said the area where the front/rear rail mates was not milled enough. I have a LOT of money in this stock intake. :(

On top of that my opti was shot because of the cam bolts backing out into it.
