Whats the low down on flywheels?

Are all LT-1 F-body flywheels the same? I have an aluminum flywheel from spec which has a weight on the back. It was originally intended for a vette who was doing a f-body clutch conversion, but I ended up with it. SPEC said the only diffrence was the weight on the back of the FW. I really don't see where it would be any diffrent from any other LT-1, but they reccomended I machine it down to the weight specified by them. What I really need to know is, would there be any diffrence in FW weights? I have a vibration, and I think this is the culprit. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks, Jason

yes thats your vibration culprit, it isnt balance for your motor. you should have it balanced and matched to your old flywheel.

What 93formula said. I'm having my aluminum flywheel pulled and the stock one put back in because of the balance problem. I could get the aluminum one rebalanced and reinstalled but I don't want my car down that long and considering I do more road racing than anything else the steel one is better suited for me.

correct me if im wrong.. but from my understanding.. the alum(lighter flywheel) would be better for road racing.. fast revs up and down. the Steel one would be better for drag racing.. do yoo enurta(spelling?) that was my understanding.. but then again ive been wrong many other times, whos to say this is any different

the heavier flywheel the better for drag racing, the lighter the better for street racing. unless all your doing is straight line street racing then go with the heavier one.
