what would happen if you install the fuel filter the wrong way?

just curious what would happen if you would install a fuel filter the wrong way? my brothers 1995 camaro fuel filter has 2 nipples at the end and i guesss the person stripped the nut before and just used fuel hose and a fuel filer with the 2 nipples sticking out so if he would install the fuel filter the wrong what would happen? or would it matter?

I was going to say you cannot install it wrong, but you have a special situation. I hope the rubber hose holds-not a great idea.

It probably would not flow as well as in the proper direction. Most filters have an arrow or some printing on them indicating flow.

Acutally flow would roughly be the same but filtering capacity would be greatly reduced.

Typically in paper filters, the flow is from outside to in so that the paper is pushed in and strengthened by the pleats. In ther reverse direction, is is entirely possible that the element might fail by being sresssed inside to out.
