I am wanting to put a custom cold air intake on my car ,but I don't know what the hose that connects to the stock air intake tube is for??? if anyone knows what I am talking about and what it is for it will be greatly appreciated
thanks William

It goes to the A.I.R. pump if you still have one.

so how do I get rid of this hose??
Just plug it off? or do I need to run it somewhere?
thanks William

Plugging it would probably be a good way to burn up your AIR pump, pending it still functions. You could hook a breather up to it, or ditch your AIR pump altogether. :)

Has anyone seen my AIR pump?

I'm assuming you don't have headers yet.. so until then there's no reason to remove the AIR system..

In the meantime just put a breather filter on the end of it and tuck it down somewhere.

so just take the hose off and put an air filter on it??? what are the advantages of taking the air system off??

thanks William

You can't leave either side open. The AIR side needs filtered air. The intake system side can be plugged.

There is no functional or performance advantage to removing the AIR system.

there is no performance advantage to having the system off 'cept losing 7 lbs or so of weight :)

while your car still has cats, leave your AIR system on, and plug the tube on the intake side with the breather filter as already mentioned. the AIR system is used to pour air into the cats during cold startup.

im not running any cats on my 95, should i take it off?i Know that pump has to eat up some HP to turn it? my car is not a daily driver barely 500 miles the last 6 months. heads and cam are in the near future.

what size belt fits when taking out the pump?

Chris

Actually the pump eats no horsepower b/c it's electric.

BTW, Electric = no belt to it

95BLKTA Feb 12, 2003 08:32 PM

ahhh, i see.

but wouldnt that make my alt. have to kick in more and thus cause more drag on the belt which would take away a fraction of a fraction of a horse??!!

J/K;) !!!

Thanks
Chris

If you have no cats, then the pump serves no purpose. It only operates within the first few minutes when the engine is cold, so it robs you of no power.

95BLKTA Feb 12, 2003 08:56 PM

so i just need to figure out a way to cap the air fittings on the stock manifolds?

Chris
