Car is stock!!! Gets 13+ city in a good week. Still trying to figure out why. Appears to be some kind of 97 problem.

i do have a wicked exhaust leak though, i am just going to get that flange welded shut because nothing helps, it blew off every bolt that wasn't welded on at the nut part, and blew every gasket i put in it

On a trip at 75-80 I got 26 MPG after 325 miles. I usually average about 20-22 highway driving. This is with mods in sig.

Best I've ever gotten was 25 MPG with mixed driving. Was usually around 20MPG, then I changed the PCV (it was nasty) and my gas mileage went up (best $2 I ever spent). Needless to say, I was ecstatic. It was the highlight of the week.

In my entirely stock 94 6 speed Z I got 22 mpg (about 80% highway 20% city and 20% spirited driving)

What I figure is that anyone who loves the hotrod should drive it now and throw gas mileage to the wind if it interferes with power because gas prices are only going to get worse. I've got ported heads and a cam on the way.

17mpg city, 25mpg highway with 2.73s, 2 loose plugs, 1 burnt and cracked plug wire. Now I'm getting 15mpg city, not sure about highway with 3.73's, and new plugs/wires.

i was amazed to fill up my tank after just about 260 miles and it only took just over 9 gallons! This was on the highway cruising in 6th gear at around 65-75 mph in the rain! I had a minor header leak and my 3" cutout was capped with a crappy plate I made. Around town though, mid teens

almost 30 mpg on the highway/ low teens in the city)

A 97 problem indeed...I get 10-14mpg w/ 95% city driving! Why is this? Are 97s cursed? Are there really other 97s with poor gas mileage? I will change plugs and all that soon, car has 70,000 miles original plugs so new ones will help.....but i don't expect gas mileage to improve much...... = : - (

Sounds like you guys are in need of a tune up.

My milage has been great on my '97. See my numbers in my previous post. Record high is 31.5 mpg and record low is 15 mpg.

Average over the entire life of my '97 (61,500 miles) is 20.5 mpg. (Yes, I calculate my milage every fill-up)
