what is a erg?

people have said my erg is bad, but since no one wants to revisit my threads i figured id just ask directly.

what is an ERG, and what does it stand for and or controll?

anaik 10-11-2003 08:13 PM

That would be EGR, exhaust gas recirculation. It lets exhaust gases back into the intake at low to med rpm high load conditions to cut down on NO forming in the combustion process.

and so where would i find this gasket?

and could i replace it myself?

EGR

EGR questions are asked frequently. You might try a search for info.

Here's a picture of the EGR valve. It is on the back of the intake manifold, on the drivers side. The gasket would be between it and the intake. Whether you can do it, I couldn't say.

i assume this is drivers side, behind the engine...

would this be correct?

could i make it start leaking if i touched it at all? i mean this "exhaust leak" my friend says i probably have happened after i blindly took out a few spark plugs and put em back in, but i got clumbsy fingers

yesss!!! :) this pic shows me where the oil pres sensor is :P now i can fix that woohoo (i had trouble finding it)

:D

is it possible to see this, or do i have to feel and find it???

i guess since the pic was taken, its seeable :P

is there a big of the engine pic, and like an X as to where this would be?

It's not near any spark plugs. It is on the back of the intake manifold, under the cowl.

NewbieWar 10-11-2003 09:20 PM

well what would spark it to just start leaking or whatever?

ead94z28 10-11-2003 10:29 PM

If you think you are leaking at the egr, it is very easy to take it off and replace the gasket. It took me 15 minutes.

NewbieWar 10-11-2003 10:49 PM

what does that gasket cost and whats the part number?

ead94z28 10-11-2003 11:50 PM

Part #12337972

.90 cents

NewbieWar 11-02-2003 10:07 PM

oook, what do i have to do to replace it?

i just got one today now how do i replace it

ead94z28 11-02-2003 10:40 PM

You have to reach back and feel for the bolts that hold it on. Unscrew it and remove it. I used my wifes little makeup mirror to see so I could see to scrape the old gasket material off. While it's off look in the hole and make sure it's not all carboned up. If it is, clean it out. Replace in the reverse order.
