what else can i do for hp
my sig tells what all i have done to my car. its at a dyno shop being tuned right now and should be ready mon-tue. now without a tune it put down 385hp to the rear wheels. now the tuner said i should see 400ish at the wheels and 400lbs torque. now in the future i plan to do the rear end, build the bottom end, tranny build up. so once that is all done the motor will last longer. now the only things left to do to the motor to get power more power at this time would be a cam,NOS,bigger blower pulley correct? just curious how else i could make some nice power. anyway other options?

Re: what else can i do for hp
when you do the bottum end you could always do a 355, 383 or 396 setup

Re: what else can i do for hp
Well in general, if your pulling the block, increase the cubic inches as well as lower the compression of the motor. This will allow for more CFM out of the blower (by changing the pulley to increase the rpm of the blower) and hence you should be able to over pressurize the cylinder to hence make the same amount of boost.
Because 1 psi of boost is in relation to the cubic inches of the motor as well as the flowing capacity of the intake, cylinder heads, cam and exhuast. All of them can effect the final out put, but increasing the cubic inches alone will lower the boost output if you change nothing else blower wise (the output of cfm), but then you can turn the blower up, or upgrade to a larger unit and make more power. Its kinda hard to understand but with a boost motor (blower/turbo/nitrous) the more room you have to work with, the more power you can make, given the rest of the setup. |
Re: what else can i do for hp
hmm true that slipped my mind. thanks

Re: what else can i do for hp
is it true that when you port the heads and intake you loose boost pressure but gain top end performance?
|
Re: what else can i do for hp
anything to make the motor flow more air the less boost you'll see. because the boost pressure is simply the resistance the engine has to the blower. so if it accepts more air from the blower, there is less resistance, less boost pressure. so youve got to make the SC blow harder to bring the boost psi back up.
so yes, youll get more power but show less boost. |
Re: what else can i do for hp
I love when guys who own 03 cobras and nothing else go, I lose HP when I do headers, I lose boost, its stupid to do headers. The more you open up the path for the air flow, again is allowing the blower to outpump more air (measured in CFM). So its a good thing to lose boost via changing the engine combo, just not by having a inlet pipe slip off, lol.

Re: what else can i do for hp
so could i get a bigger pulley then the 3.125? its for 8lbs.
|
Re: what else can i do for hp
i mean smaller
|
Re: what else can i do for hp
dont know what pullies youve got now, but you could either get a larger crank pulley or a smaller blower pulley. or both. not sure what size vortech makes but i know there are a few companies who make special billet pulleys that fit.

Re: what else can i do for hp
just checked. they have 3.33, 3.12, 2.95, and 2.75". $75
if you dont have the larger crank pulley(6.66"), id do that first. the smaller you go with the blower pulley, the more likely youll have belt slippage. |
Re: what else can i do for hp
i bought the kit used and the guy gave me his stock crank pulley that vortech machined to fit there blower crank pulley onto. so stock is 6" right? i have the 3.12 pulley. what does a larger crank pulley do?

Re: what else can i do for hp
Have you considered an intercooler?
What's the primary diameter on those "mid headers"? |
Re: what else can i do for hp
wouldi pick up hp with a intercooler? i have heard you loose 1-2lbs of boost with them? or maybe just the vortech setup? hmm i'm not sure on the mac midlength headers with the diameters are. maybe 1 5/8?

Re: what else can i do for hp
the stock 6 psi kit comes with the 6" crank pulley and 3.33 SC pulley. if you go smaller on the supercharger and larger on the crank, youll spin the SC impellar faster. id say on the stock motor your pushing the edge with the boost. hell, im worried with only 6 psi.
and yes youll loose a little boost with an inter/aftercooler, but the air charge being more dense will make up for the lost PSI in power. and its safer. hey injuneer, how much, if any, would he benefit from charge cooling since hes already got the chemical cooling from the meth injection? i wouldnt think for the cost of putting a aftercooler or intercooler(a pain in the a$$ with a vortech SC) it would be worth the the gains.....i mean your talking an easy $1000 to do either one the right way. |
