What does the Lt in lt1 stand for?
I know i know not much a tech question but a kid asked me tonight and i basically felt like a idiot saying " i dont know? "
so what does the LT in lt1 stand for or the LS in LS1? |
Lights Tires
acualy it's just an RPO code. maybe someone else has a more specific answer? |
Low Traction? Light Truck? Long Trunk? :D
Marvin |
Your all wrong. Lotsa Torque.:D
Sorry, I really don't have any idea, but I just couldn't resist. |
No meaning whatsoever. It's just an RPO (regular production order) code, i.e. option. Same as the LS1, LT4, LS6, Z06, ZR1, WS6, etc...
Just be happy the rpo code isn't like QW3. :) |
The modern LT1 was named such as a nod to the old time LT1, where the LT also stood for nothing.
|
my 77 camaro was a type lt which stood for lotus touring. seeing lotus designed the suspension on the few that were made
|
are you sure about the lotus touring?
i always thought it was luxury touring also, since they used it in 3rd gen (albeit only for like 1 year) those weren't designed by lotus i assume just wondering, first time i ever heardthat |
As posted above. There isnt no real meaning. GM named our motors the LT-1, after the old 2nd gen Lt1 motors. The old LT1 350 chevy small black was a powerfull motor. So GM felt the LT-1 lived up to that.
Same thing with the LS-6. |
This is a cool site for the older muscle car motors information.
http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclec...-engines.shtml it has some info on the LS6 aka 454 |
I don't think the '77 "Type LT" is rare or special. It was the "top of the line" Camaro in the absence of a Z28...... I saw one just the other day for sale. Plain car.... originally came with a 305 2bbl, auto, 2.73 gears. Absolutely nothing special. I'm fairly sure they made these in the zillions :)... Also, I think they had Type LT's in 75 and 76 also?.... Incidentally, I think I read that 1975 was the highest sales year for the Camaro...... Perhaps due to the demise of the Mustang in '73.
... On a similar note, I believe 2003 was a record Mustang sales year (not the highest, but the highest in 10+ years?)... perhaps due to the lack of a Camaro. -Michael |
