What cam to start with.

I am thinking of puting an Lt1 in a truck and was wondering what you guys think about cam for pulling my Firebird and boat on the weekends. I was planning on leaving the heads and most everything stock and a mild cam just for low end tq. It will have an Auto and 3.42 rear end.

A rough guesstimate, but b-body people like running the lt4 and cc503 cam in their cars for their low end torque.

I've got a LT4 with stock heads in my '94 Silverado with the LPE 211/219 cam. I have the stock 4L60E, stock convertor and stock gears and it pulls great. I regularly tow my car hauler and GN behind it almost 100 miles each way to the track, never had a problem. I put a dual LS1 fan setup on it also. A thing to note, depending on what year truck it is, if you have a f-body LT1 with the f-body accessory brackets, then you may have to notch out the frame rail for the AC compressor. Mine was out of a Vette so it has different accessory brackets with the AC up top, so it was a direct drop in.
Let me know if you have any other questions, but I had someone else do the wiring splicing, there are lots of cut wires in the glove box where the stock computer used to be, the LT4 PCM is there in the engine bay on the driver side, but anything else non-wiring related I can help most likely. All factory gauges inside work like they are supposed to.

Forgot to add, this cam has an almost stock idle, if you want something with a bigger duration you might be sacrificaing the low end torque you need for pulling. If you get in to a bigger stall if its an A4 then you're going to be producing more heat in the tranny when pulling too and that ain't good when towing, I've got the largest tranny cooler I could stick up front.

If it is just going to be a cam only car, then I would look into the CC305, CC503, or LT4 Hotcam grinds.

It's definitely louder than the motor :D The alarm usually scares the chit out of me when it goes off. Had same siren on my MCSS back in college...car got broke into twice in the college parking lot but all they got was the door open because the overly louder than normal alarm must have scared them off. Police said they could hear it all over the south end of campus but couldn't figure out where it was coming from before it went off :D ...so I must say it works better than the traditional bird chirper alarm :)
