first of all, you don't want to put either heads or a cam on a 118k mile motor. you'll spend a weekend getting the heads/cam on, just to have to take everything apart again when you startin spinning and blowing bearings. thats a lot of stress to put on an old, tired motor. usually, people don't mess with putting a cam in any motor over 75k miles old or so. I would definately recomend a rebuild before you put any kind of power to that motor. also, rebuilding the motor will make it much easier to get a cam in and heads on, obviously. it doesn't cost much for the basic rebuild. stock type hypereutectic pistons will take good power anyways, if you can't afford fordged pistons. stock crank will hold plenty of power, and the pm lt1 rods will too. in my area the basic refreshening of the bottom end cost about 800 including the cost of new hypereutectic pistons with rings, bearings, freeze plugs, etc. i can probably dig up one of my old receipts for a roller sbc and scan it to ya if interested. but to answer you question.... stock heads seem to favor anything between .500-.550 lift and 220-225 intake duration@.050 from what i've seen in dyno graphs and people's ET's. On some ported lt1 heads, i'd say the cam you have is a good choice with 1.6 rr's, but you could go with a cam that features more duration to benefit from the ported heads. if you use this cam on stock heads, i'd stay with 1.5 rr's to keep the lift down. untill u could get the heads ported. if all else fails, go with the cc306 on ported heads if you have an m6, or an auto with a high stall. You usually don't see any complaints with that cam. BUT, cams are relative to politics, so everybody has their own philosophy on what is best. good luck, and rebuild that motor!!
