what is this

I have 1995 z28 with a 6 speed. I just put a jasper motor in it about 5 thousand miles ago. Everything went fine with no problems. Since then I've put headers and a crane ignition on it. Now when i am in gear going down the road it makes a ticking noise, it gets faster as the rpm's go up. but when it is in nuetral and i rev it up there is no tick. I have been told it is my headers "pinging" or that a spark plug is arcing. But why would it not be there when my car is not in gear and i rev it up. thanks for the help.

Probably your header gasket.

Tighten down all your header bolts on your head.

I would say it would be something to do with the tranny or clutch if it's a manual, i didn't look at that. That would only make sense if it only does it when in gear.

I have the same problem on my factory motor. Changed to headers, and changed plugs and wires. Still there. Its an auto tranny.
