Weight savings with T56 over 4L60E?

How much lighter is my car going to be going with a stock T56 over a stock 4L60E?

Oh boy I don't know about that. I was going to say more like 50-100 pounds lighter. The T56 alone weighs about 100 pounds, I can't see the 4L60E weighing 300 pounds.

Check out MSN Carpoint and compare an automatic vs. a manual and I think it's around 200lbs or so.

It shows anywhere between 10lbs and 100lbs, I don't think its very accurate.

I would say about 50 lbs max actually. both the transmissions weigh about the same dry as mentioned. The Auto has the TQ converter which is pretty heavy when full. But the manual has the bellhousing and flywheel/clutch/ pressureplate assembly which weights pretty close to the same as a TQ convter.

I've weighed both, and if I remember correctly, it is only 10-15#. The manual weights about 160 # once you factor in the fluid, clutch flywheel, pressure plate etc.. The auto is only a bit more with the flexplate and converter... The older t-5's were a ton lighter than the 700R4's, but the t56 is a much bigger trans. Back when I had a hoist I could throw my T-5 on my shoulder and practically toss it into my 53 F-100, but with the T56, it is almost a 2 persone deal just to lift it, much like the A4...

I agree with Beertestr....

I've had one of each in my garage recently, and they weigh just about the same...both really heavy.

LOL I wouldn't say really heavy, try hefting a cast iron trans case, like a Ford Toploader, or a 4 speed auto out of a 57 Cadillac... now that is some heft......

But like I said before, compared to the T-5 is is about twice the weight..

Same amount of gas each time? (or close) Remember a gallon of gas is about 8lbs, so 1/2 a tank difference would be a difference of around 60 lbs. Not trying to get technical, just curious if that was the same each time
