Weight difference between LT1 and LS1 block?

I was wondering what the weight differences were in these two motors. I hear there is about a 50lb difference from the LT1 motor and the LS1's. Is this correct and does anyone know the exact weights?

I don't know the exact difference between them, but I'd assume the LS1 aluminum block would be considerably lighter than the LT1's iron block.

Well I figured that much. I was wanting to know how much of a difference there was though. Probably between 50-90lbs.

I would assume the iron LS1 would weigh about the same as the LT1 iron block, so here are the exact figures:

GEN III V8 IRON BLOCK = 210.4LBS
GEN III V8 ALUMINUM BLOCK = 92.5LBS

Cylinder heads:

GEN III V8 IRON HEAD = 43.2LBS
GEN III V8 ALUMINUM HEAD = 18.9LBS

Other info:

* Aluminum will expand 1.7 times the amount of cast gray iron.
* Heat will flow through aluminum 2.4 times more quickly than cast gray iron.
* A sharp object will penetrate aluminum 25% deeper than cast gray iron.

Hope this answers all your questions, this is all GM INFO.

According to these guys, who dismantle a lot of cars, the LS1 block is 53 lbs lighter than the LT1 block.

http://www.hpsalvage.com/lt1.htm

Corvette Black Book says a fully dressed LS1 (accessories, etc) weighs 44 lbs more than a 1996 LT4.

All F body and Corvette's use the aluminum block. In 'vette's its '97 and up, in F Bodies its '98 up.

Ok, I was thinking about some of the 01 and 02 models having the LS6 block. Sorry, I know the LS1's are aluminum I was just thinking about something else.
