Weak starting
At first start up, she turns over easily. after I drive then shut it off and go to start it back up, she turns over very lazy and even stops in the middle of turning over. Even my fuel pressure gauge changes color like I unhooked the battery.
I installed a new LT4 starter, newer cables and its a good battery. any ideas? |
Re: Weak starting
Also a new motor so the ground should be nice and clean

Re: Weak starting
How do you get it back to an "easy start" condition? Is it cooling off then just starts easy again?
|
Yes.
It has done this ever since i bought it. Now i have the Corvette starter and long tubes. |
Re: Weak starting
And a different column and ignition switch.

Re: Weak starting
Change your battery.

Re: Weak starting
Battery is fine. Also did it with a brand new one

Re: Weak starting
Does it have an aftermarket tune?
If the timing was advanced enough on cranking RPM's I could see it being a problem once it is hot and running on Closed Loop. |
Re: Weak starting
my car has done the same thing for years. Starts fine cold but if it's warm it has a hard time turning over and will stop in the middle then muster up the power to turn over.
replaced battery, starter, wrapped new starter in starter heat wrap, grounds are good, etc. The only thing left for me to try to replace is the ignition switch. |

Re: Weak starting
No paint.

Re: Weak starting
Did you check the cables for corrosion?
|
Re: Weak starting
I bought a replacement used set. They looked good when i installed the new motor. I cant see any corrosion but that doesn't mean there isn't any. I have cut wires before and inside they are corroded.

Are these the part numbers

Re: Weak starting
Can anybody confirm that the symptoms the OP is having is caused by the ignition switch? My car just started doing it out of nowhere. All of my grounds were cleaned when I had my motor out for a rebuild so I can confirm that they're all good.
I've replaced everything else and the only thing I ever read that could cause it as well was the ignition switch but I never wanted to take the time to replace that. |
Re: Weak starting
I swapped out a column, and used the ignition switch that came on it and it was the same after that.
|
The car has always been this way. Different cables, clean block, new starter, known good battery. The cables were used though, so they could be corroded inside.
And, after two days of sitting, the battery is always dead. So, could something be draining the power after its driven and sits for just a little while. I need to research the proper way to find a parasitic draw. |
Re: Weak starting
If you have a multi-meter, set is up for DC amps, and put it in between the battery cable and the battery + terminal. Do NOT try to start the engine, or use any heavy electrical loads, or you may destroy the meter. You should only see a fraction on an amp normal draw. If you have anything more than that, pull the fuses one-by-one until the amp draw disappears. If you have any aftermarket electronics in the vehicle, don't forget to pull any inline fuses.
