Waterpump install question

I feel stupid for asking this. Anyway, the waterpump has been unistalled on my car for quite sometime as the car has been sitting in my garage. I'm putting it back together and it seems that I am missing the gasket that mounts inbetween the waterpump and the housing. Is there some sort of rubber o ring that should go there or is it a paper gasket? Thanks in advance.

Re: Waterpump install question

Not sure what you mean by "the water pump and the housing" since they're one and the same, but there is an O-ring that seals the water pump cover to the housing as well as being another O-ring seal at the rear of the pump around the pump shaft. If you can see ball bearings around the rear pump driveshaft it's missing the seal.

Re: Waterpump install question

If you are talking about the o-ring that goes between the front cover and the housing (or between the pump and the housing if you have an E-WP), then I would bet that you would be okay with just putting a bead of RTV around the surface, let it harden for 20min to a half hour, then bolting the cover back on. If that doesn't work, I do have a spare o-ring from a WP if you need one.

The o-ring is what I am missing. I should be able to pick one up at the parts store. Thanks for the info.
