my serpetine belt was squeaking . so , i took it to the shop . they said my waterpump was throwing coolant on the belt is this true . that was making it sqeak is this true . thanks for any help . jay

 

Bet the powersteering was occassionally a little rough too. acessory issues like momentary loss of power steering assist are usually indeed the first signs of waterpump failure.

What happens is the bearings go which causes excessive wear of the seals and it begin to weep a little and the hole for that to escape is right above the balancer and the belt when the belt gets coolant on it is slips.
