Water Pump Test? (Cooling problem)
Water Pump Test? (Cooling problem)
I was wondering if there was a way to test the water pump at all? My car last night started heating up to the third tick and just stayed there no matter what i did, stayed the same today and then went up to just before the red marker. (Dont know the exact degrees of each line if someone could inform me that would be great lol 1st is 160 i know that) so anyway i got home popped the hood and the coolant started overflowing about 1-2mins after i stopped.
One of my fan motors has been out and i'm replacing that tomarrow, but it's been running fine for the last month and all the sudded it heated up like that. I'm going to try to check the thermostat tonight, someone said it was probably that or the pump. Any input would be great thanks.

Re: Water Pump Test? (Cooling problem)
The WP either works or leaks. If the impeller is on the shaft and the belt is turning it it's working properly.
Check the T'stat in a pot of boiling water and have your radiator checked for being stopped up.
I would put my money on either or both.

Belt? Take the radiator cap off when the engine is cool, crank the car and look to see if water is flowing back into radiator. It returns back into the top of your radiator so it's pretty obvious. That's the way I check mine.
