Hello all,

I have a 94 camaro with 78,000 mostly stock. Question, at 65, 70, 75. I have little vibration in the steering wheel. What is causing this? Tires are new rotated and balanced and good alignment. It's not a huge deal. It is an annoying. Anyone now how to fix this?

 

i have the same vibration in the steering wheel.... at around 100-110MPH it gets real bad.... normal highway speeds like 65MPH it is very minor.

I am going to check for alignment... you could possibly have a bent rim, if my alignment isnt messed im going to check my rims next.

 

That is my problem too. A bud of mine on his 99 has the same problem. I have to think that is a pretty common problem and there is an easy solution. Please keep me updated.

 

Sounds like an unbalanced drive shaft. For $20 go get it balanced at the dealer.

I had a couple of vibs in my car at differnt times.
The first was not in the steering wheel just couldnt tell where it was comming from. That turned out to be the driveshaft.

The second was comming from the steering wheel. That started after I did the ls1 brake swap. That turned out to be the rotors.

Cant say for sure what the cause of yours is but I hope I shed some light for ya.

It's most likely the driveshaft. A lot of people have had that problem with driveshaft vibration. In fact, I think GM even put out a service bulletin about it. Take it to a dealership and see if they'll do it for free. Supposedly, they replace it with the aluminum version. If they won't then, do it yourself. At the very least, you'll have a better driveshaft.

 

A driveshaft out of balance will not cause a vibration in the steering wheel, you'll feel that throughout the car. Get you tires rebalance by a different place, preferably one that has a roadforce machine that can simulate the amount of vibration you get when driving down the road. Alot of times it can be the quality/brand of tire.
