Vats

My security light has been staying on all the time, and today I tried wiring in a resistor equal to that of my key pellet. However, this did nothing. I also just left the VATS wire under the steering column completely disconnected without a resistor or connected normally, and it started just like normal. What am I doing wrong?

the problem will not be with the ign cyl then. it;s with another part of teh passkey system. like the theft relay ect ect.. you can get the system scanned and see what the code is althou since you ahve been messing with the system it will throw that off. I sugest you hook everything back up and unhook the neg battery termonal for a min or two and try again

after putting the res. in you'll need to clear the code. If that still doesn't work, you must have the wrong wire.??

Since your engine will run with the Security lamp on, the Pass-Key module is in "fault enable mode". That means that there was a problem detected after the engine was already running. So, it will continue to let you start the car and the system is disabled.

You might want to double check about your resistor trial. Put your key in the ignition and use a meter on the column side of the plug you disconnected under the dash. Make sure you can read the key and verify the reading is what you thought it was before.

Make sure your resistor is in the range for the pellet code.

If those things look ok, you can use a test light, putting one lead to 12v and the other to the ppl/wht wire (cavity "B") on the PK module side of the 2 way connector you disconnected under the dash. You should get a light. If not, unplug the PK module and check the harness terminal B5 to 12v with your test light. If you have light there, make sure you don't have any connection problems at the module and replace module if necessary.
