Valve covers

Anybody ever try this brand of valve covers? I hope to put them over my jessel shaft rockers. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I used to have those and they work fine, but the aluminum is a bitch to keep clean and polished. I had the Zoops brand but they are identical and you also won't be able to run your alternator without some pounding or grinding to get it to fit.

Dave00 Did you have Jessel shaft rockers? If so did you have to modify the valve covers for any clearance issues?

Sorry don't have those rockers as I stuck with the Crane Golds, but I am sure it would clear as they are taller than stock and you should'nt have any issues but not 100% on that. As to clearance, honestly I just built the motor with them and then sold them as I didn't wanna have to deal with grinding the Alternator to fit as they do not have the dimple on the pass side to account for the Alt bracket. I ended up just having the stock VC's chromed and didn't have any clearance probs with them. Good luck to you.

Silver,

It's worth a trial fit if possible before you send your money. Valve cover clearance over shaft rockers is sometimes a function of the rocker ratios you have. My shaft rockers are T&D, 1.8 and 1.6. I had to buy sheet metal covers and then grind on them to get everything to fit. When I used stud-mount rockers, same ratios, they fit under a cast aluminum cover. If you have different ratios and Jesel rockers, you may be fine but it's a crap shoot unless you can verify the fit first.

I have the Proform cast aluminum valve covers which are very simular to the ones you've shown on the link and my 1.6 Jesels fit without any issues (.590" on lift).

My lift on the cam will be around .659. Do you think that the proforms will still work?

I don't know. However, at the end of this season, I plan to go to new +.100" longer valves (w/ 2.05" intakes) and a SR with .630 to .650 lift at the valves. So, I guess I'll find out.

Also, the Jesels came with the optional .100" spacers for the longer valves. I'll just have to model everything to see if the Proforms are tall enough. With the additional rocker shaft height and lift, I'm sure it will be pushing the limit for clearance.

Don`t get those. I had a set of those when I had ProMags. I felt the quality was terrible. They just didn`t fit real nice. Currently I have Jesels just like The Engineer has. I also have the Proforms but in the black crinkle finish. These fit great with my AFR heads and Jesels and the quality is fantastic. Better oil baffles too. Just be careful and only tighten to about 15inch lbs. They will crack if overtightened. You will also have to grind the back of your alternator too. No big deal.

My lift is only .565" and my valves are +.100" too.

And go to my webshots.com link in my sig for some pics of the valve covers, even the old polished ones too.

I also had to do a little work on the alternator and valve cover to get it to fit. Also, I have AFR heads and the Proforms fit well on them.
