Update On Air Pump, Dealer Will Not Do It

Well I took my car in to the dealer today for air pump, they ran the vin and said fine we will do it. I just got a phone call from the dealer stating that there is a fuel leak in one of my lines so they will not be able to fix my problem untill the fuel leak is taking care of. Well I asked how much would it run me, they said $450 for parts and labor. I asked how much are the parts only $38 dollars. My question is How much of pain will it be to fix it myself, meaning replace the fuel lines.

please help, im stump..........I rather spend that money on mods

Its by the manifold on the driver side, do u guys think the dealer is just ripping off just so they dont have to replace my air pump for free? Also where would I be able to get the steel braided hoses at, or do you have the part number?

Re: Update On Air Pump, Dealer Will Not Do It

The part number for the flexible lines from under the driver's seat to the engine is 10258441 and even at retail is $27 (wholesale $15.38). The only special tool you will need is a fuel line disconnect tool for the fittings at the manifold end (less than $10 at a parts store).

I assume the recall is still active and they must do it for free. Threaten to call their regional manager and turn them in.

I believe it should be for 95lt1-97, to make sure just call your local gm dealer and give them your vehicle's vin number, they should be able to tell you

The recall is years old.

Product Emission - Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R.) Pump System Failures #99083
99083 -- Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R.) Pump System Failures
1995, 1996, 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird Model Vehicles

Equipped with 5.7L Engine (RPO LT1-VIN Code P)

Condition
General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Campaign involving all 1995, 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird model vehicles equipped with 5.7L (RPO LT1-VIN Code P) engines. The Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R.) pump emission control system on these vehicles may fail to operate and cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to illuminate. This condition may be due to corrosion of a solenoid internal to the A.I.R. pump.

Correction
Dealers are to install a new A.I.R. pump assembly kit that is designed to protect the A.I.R. pump system from failing due to internal corrosion.

Vehicles Involved
Involved are all 1995, 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird model vehicles equipped with 5.7L (RPO LT1-VIN Code P) engines and built within the following VIN breakpoints:

Year Division Model Plant From Through
1995 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese S2100001 S2229521
1995 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese S2200001 S2256723
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese T2100001 T2166869
1996 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese T2200001 T2232760
1997 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese V2100002 V2160181
1997 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese V2200001 V2232666

When the dealer does the recall do they relocate a vacuum solenoid to the coil bracket stud?

thanks for the info shoebox, when I did the icm mod I noticed the solenoid on my coil bracket but I didn't see it your website, so I assume you avoided the recall and removed your air pump?

I just never had it done. My AIR pump works fine. I didn't trust the dealer to touch my car. I figured the first thing they would do is tear it up getting it on the rack, since it is lowered. They refused to give me the parts and let me do it myself.
