Unending Overheating Problem
 

Cars runs hot in the city. The past couple weeks i have just left the defroster on, high heat, lowest speed. The temp gauge never went above 180-190 approximately. Yesterday, i changed the thermostat, drove it around in 85-90 degree heat, with heat off, wouldnt overheat or get close to 3/4 temp. However, i didnt tighten the two bolts down enough, and it had a small leak. So today i unbolted it, lined the t-stat up with the gasket, no leaks. When i drove it around today, i could literally watch the temp gauge rise. I had to park it on two seperate occasions to let it cool down. And of course it would gush coolant out the reservoir while it was parked. I got it home and realized i didnt bleed the two little screws. Did that and it hissed for quite a while. After all of this,when i tried to turn the fan on, it would blow COLD air on the HOTTEST setting on defrost. Let me recap : defrost, temp nob in the red = feels like air conditioning. I was happy yesterday, i just figured i needed to tighten it down and it would be just fine. WTF?

Nobel prize to whoever helps me get this right...

this won't fix your temp. problem but perhaps your lack of heat prob. try flushing out your heater core it's easy and it seems common (in other words I need to do mine too just haven't gotten around to doing it).

You have air in the lines. Top off your radiator, top off the reservoir, leave the screws open till coolant comes out. If you had a severe leak or were working on the cooling system near the pump, you may have to fill the radiator several times and bleed before the system will work properly again. If your vents are blowing out cold air while it's set on heat it means there's no movement of coolant, the water pump is just sitting there spinning, trying to suck a bunch of air through.

your water pump might be toast... happend to me and I was having the same problems. Mine was also smelled like dead fish, haha so that gave it away.
