Turns over but no start
Turns over but no start
My 94Z has been sitting in the garage for about a year. I attempted to start it today without luck. It just turns over but doesn't try to start. Where should I start to diagnose this problem? I do I check fuel pressure and spark?
Re: Turns over but no start
Fuel pressure gauge on the Schrader valve. Pull a plug wire and hold it near groung, preferably with pliers so you don't get a shock. Do same with coil wire if you don't have spark at the plug wire. Scan for codes.
Are you trying to start it using the old fuel? Siphon and replace.

Re: Turns over but no start
The battery is fully charged. I took the battery off my daily driver to use.
I'll check the spark this afternoon. The old fuel is still in the tank. What is the best way to remove it?

Re: Turns over but no start
I think I've found the problem, at least one problem. When I turn the key on, I don't hear the fuel pump kick on. I've also tried putting 12V to the fuel pump prime connector and the pump still does not turn on.
What can I do to be completely sure it's the fuel pump and not a bad connection or something else? Any good instructions on how to replace the fuel pump? I've seen a few people who cut a hole in the back to remove the pump. I have a convertible so I'm not sure that will work. There's not much room above the area to be cut open to access the fuel pump.

Re: Turns over but no start
The trap door method is the only way to go I think, not sure if it matters thats its convertible. My fuel pump is very loud and you would know for sure if it didn't come on. I would personally do the cutout and verify power to the pump and replace if you find it does. Hear lots of fuel pumps that stop working for no reason, other than just sitting to long. Anything like mice chewing your wiring or something like that could cause your issue. I bet you just need a new pump. You could very easily remove the old fuel once the fuel pump is out also.
