Transmission Temperature Sender.

Does anybody have any information or pics on how to tap into the lines for your transmission temperature sender? Also what hardware will I need? I heard the this is a more accurate temp. reading rather than from the Trans. pan.

Thanks, Rich

When i put the sender into my transmission i used the test port which is right above the shift linkage. I have the phantom electrical one and all i did was screw the sender and it's a direct fit too into the test port and i ran it back to the gauge that was it. I heard from a lot of guys on the board to do it that way.

Sweet. Thanks guys, I love the search function! I just got my phantom electrical tranny temp gauge, and was worried because the instructions say I "may" have to drill.

I put mine in the test port too although I think it gives false readings. Mine are always higher than what everyone else reports. I think its from heatsoak from the tranny itself.

Yup, I just ended up putting mine into the test port. Works Great.

What's the normal 4L60E normal driving temp? I drove to the hardware store (15 minutes away) and was at 150F. Just curious.

Thats about right for a drive of that length. If you are doing any driving of longer distances it will be around 180 or so.

Sweet. thanks.

I actually cut into the cooler lines and put the sensor there.
It's a lot more work to do this method than the port method.

Cooler Temp Install Guide

That's the fluid temp of the tranny before it is getting cooled down.

The test port method is ok, but do to the poor grounding property of the transmission housing (aluminum) your readings might be off a little off. One way to counter act this is to attach a grounding wire to the sensor to the car.

Good luck with any way you do it.

I used your install guide and I can't get the fluid to stop leaking from the output line from the trans to the metal line. I hacked off the line with a saw and put hose over it and it won't stop leaking despite having 3 clamps on it. What size hose did you use? I used the hose that came with the cooler which is the same one you have.

O.k. I stopped the leak. Flared the end where I hacked it off and it's good to go now.
