Unhappy Torque converter going bad?....need help.

I think my torque converter is going..... here's what I got.

The car normally runs fine, except at slow speed under light throttle it seems to rev until1500rpms and then will finially lurch forward. The engine is revving smoothly the whole time.

The car will stutter momentarily when going full throttle above 60mph and then slam me in the seat and go like hell... but it's sporadic.

The car has had a slow leak coming from the weephole in the bellhousing for the last year (which makes me suspect the converter). Even though it's been slowly leaking for almost two years...the trans dipstick doesn't show a loss in fluid

So... does this sound like my torque converter is on the way out?

It has 78,200 miles on the clock now.

Related Q... if the converter is dying, can I get away with only a converter change...or will this kill my trans and should I get the whole deal done at once?

I'd really appreciate any help in this matter. I got a quote for a trans rebuild /new converter....$1800 total (including removal and installation). It's a lot of $$ and I appreciate any second opinions from ya'll. Thanks.
