I always thought the Z wasnt electronically limmited so its gear limited (from what i have seen) to around 155 mph.

It depends on the car. If you have a 150mph speedometer, the car is not electronically limited. If you have a 110mph speedometer, it is limited to ~110 mph.

If the car came with Z rated [for speed] tires there is no 'speed limiter' at 108...
If it didn't the fuel is cut off at about that speed[ can be 'programmed out']
Gears really have nothing to do with top speed... [ it's all about HP...]

If your car is like my 97 Z, it might have 273's.I was told if you have 2 D OD on the shifter section you have 273's. If you have 1 2 D OD you have 323's. I know when I changed my gears it had 273's in it. hope this helps.

Exactly. Most will make it to 160ish before they just don't have enough oomph to go any higher in stock form.

Where can I order more oomph? I thought I was gonna need heads, cam, blower, nitrous, etc.

Oh, yeah, that is OOMPH!

My 94Z had a 106-108mph limiter but the Hypertech power programmer III took care of that though I think the PC based tuning software is a better value.

Yes, you're car should have come from the factory with 3.23 gears. You can't rely on your tachometer for accuracy, most stock tach's read a couple hundred RPM high.
