Timing chain
LT1 chains suffer from enough slack as it is. The chain is only part of the equation.
You could use the rationale that the chains hardly ever break, so why change it at all? But not too many people do that.

Oh, and a stock set is well under $100 (heck, even a Cloyes double roller is).
Obviously, how you treat your car is up to you.
you should never replace only the chain, thats asking for trouble.
like rob stated the new chain will wear into the old sprockets and the chances of failure are way up
