ticking sound coming from front of car, seems to get faster with higher rpm

I am thinking this may be caused by a small exhaust leak I noticed right before the cat on my 93 Z. Could this be the knock sensor picking up the tick from the exhaust leak?

What else would cause a ticking sound?

its probobly the exhuast leak making the noise.
go get some "Tiger Paw" at pep boys

I doubt the KS would pick that up

What is this Tiger Paw you speak of?

use a little j-b weld that **** is stong as..... ****

cop01 Apr 3, 2003 07:27 PM

is it connected to rpm or mph?

mineralwater Apr 3, 2003 07:32 PM

I don't think jbweld would hold up to the direct heat of the pipes - i've tried it on my header/ypipe collector, with no luck. The jbweld cracks and peels away after a couple miles.

And depending where the exhaust leak is, the KS *will* pick it up. I had a exhaust leak at the pass. side collector, and it was picking up about 6-8 degrees of kr.

well, both

As the car is moving (I hear it real good in the parking deck at school), and when it is sitting, if I put it in neutral and give it a little gas, it goes faster also.

That's why I feel it is the exhaust leak

Check ur ignition coil at night in the dark and see if it is sparking. My mark was making that noise

Mr Freeze Apr 4, 2003 02:47 PM

i'm no expert, but i had a ticking sound that was very similar to a lifter tapping...turned out to be a spark plug wire that was arcing to a close ground...pop your hood at night and look where your wires are running...it'll probably be a blue arc if it's a bad wire.
